Why I Love Spending Holidays in Florida

Who doesn't love the holidays? Especially down the Christmas holiday season. What better place to explore it than here in the sunshine stay in Florida. Now, it's going to be a little weird, but we're going to go over some of the things I personally love about spending the holidays here in our state.

But, let's talk about holidays in the Destin Fort Walton Beach area and in Florida. I'm not going to leave anything out here. So, there were seven things that absolutely loved about this area. And, one of the things that coming from New York, so I'm originally from upstate New York, in a very small town just north of Albany. I think of Christmas and most people think about Christmas here in the states, in the holiday season. They think of snow, snowman, icicles, all these different things, right? Well, here in Florida, it's a little bit different. It's a little bit different, but I want to share with you what I absolutely love.

1. DECORATE A PALM TREE

You get to decorate a palm tree. How cool is that? So, we don't just have your regular type trees, you know, the little pine trees. You actually get a palm tree. And I'll be honest, it's actually way easier to go ahead and get that because you only got to worry about the top and then you just wrap it all the way down. So, it's actually quite a treat to do and it's a lot easier than anything else. So, it's pretty cool when you send pictures. I have to send pictures back to my family and be like, hey, Merry Christmas from Florida and they're all in New York freezing. And, okay, check out the snow. I was like, yeah, I'll come and visit that later. So, it's been pretty good. Alright!

2. YOU CAN HOLD A BBQ

You can hold a barbecue or even outside events for Christmas day. Right? Now, I know that sometimes you'd be out there and it'd feel like, you know, it'd be 50, 60 degrees in some other parts of the country that day. Like, oh, that's awesome. Well, that's a cold day here, especially in North West Florida. But there's great weather all throughout the state of Florida where you can just have Christmas. It could be an entire outside event. And don't worry about wearing anything that warm. Heck, wear your flip flops, we're doing it year-round here.

3. CHRISTMAS DAY ON THE BEACH

Maybe not a backyard, but how about Christmas day on the beach? Yes. That can totally, totally happen. You could try building a snowman, but instead of a snowman, how about a sand snowman? Yeah. We do that here. Yep. So, you can go ahead and build a snowman. That way, I think it's a little bit more tricky. Just got to make sure that the sand's a little bit more compacted, but you can do all sorts of things. I actually saw somebody build out an entire Christmas tree on there and put a little light with a battery on it, so kind of look like that. So, tons of different options. And of course, to get tired of that, you can just lay out in the sun, go run into the beautiful Gulf Coast if you're out this way, just great, great time. Christmas on the beach.

4. TOUR A CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

You can tour a Christmas lights like you normally would in some neighborhoods. There's specific ones in Destin. There's a couple here in Fort Walton Beach. They're all over the place. But if you want to go tour those, you don't necessarily have to do it in your vehicle. You can well, this is kind of a redneck area in some places. You could do it back in pickup truck or in the in the style of Florida. Just jump into a golf cart. So, you can take your golf guide around and watch all the Christmas lights. So, that's a nice experience for you to go out and just enjoy that. A little unique. Alright!

5. AMUSEMENT PARKS

They're open with Christmas themes. There are tons of stuff out there that they're doing. So, you have Universal Studios, obviously, DisneySea World. They all have these whole holiday Christmas sort of themes as you go through it and how awesome is it to go out and visit your favorite park. Have the whole family there and it'd be Christmas. What a present in itself. Alright.

6. CHRISTMAS BOAT PARADE!

Something specific that we know about our area here, we do have a Christmas boat parade. Now, it's not just for Destin area, but it's all throughout Florida. You have to check specific areas on that. But once a year, they go ahead and put lights all on the boat, there's a big old boat parade. You can, I've always watched it from the shore, down in Destin, and the harbor and watch all the different boats go by. So, instead of an actual parade sitting out there waiting for people to throw candy, you can watch the boats go by sitting out on the dock in Paradise.

7. PUTTING UP CHRISTMAS LIGHTS IS EASY

Alright. So, last one that I do have for you is something I just experienced just the other day as I was putting up my Christmas lights. Now, it normally wasn't something I like to do from up north and that was just cold and it was kind of a pain and ice and all this other stuff. If you've done this before, you're nodding your head like, yeah Tim, I totally get that. Well, here in Florida, it's like putting out Christmas lights in July. Right? Besides the heat index isn't that bad. But, putting up Christmas lights is super easy. You don't have to deal with ice. You don't have to do any of that. You could be out there and board shorts and flip flops, putting up your Christmas lights, because you live in this area with beautiful weather. So, it is a lot easier. You don't have to worry about taking down the ice and those little 3m stick things. Actually, stick there for the most part for a year over year. So, I actually reused one from the previous tenant in my current home. So, it was pretty nice, it was already done. Right? So, yes, these are some of the great things about being down here in Florida. Even if you're coming down to visit and have a vacation down here. Or if you're coming to live here and get to experience this year over year for the holidays here in Florida, this is just a fantastic time. Hopefully, I gave you some good ideas here.
