Pros and Cons of Living in Crestview Florida!
Pros and Cons of Living in Crestview Florida!
We are back at it again with another pros and cons blog, but this time we are focusing on good ol' Crestview. If you are considering moving to Crestview but want to get to know it a bit better before making the final decision, then look no further. We have you covered as we will talk about the top five pros and cons of living in Crestview Florida.
We'll start with the CONS to kick this thing off:
1. Lack of Shopping
While there are some unique and interesting places to shop at in Crestview, there isn't too many name brand retailers in the area. In other words, if you are looking to do some retail therapy, your best bet is to head into Destin to shop at the Destin Commons or Silver Sands.
2. Lack of Entertainment
Again, it's not like there is absolutely nothing to keep you entertained in Crestview, it's just that there is not a wide variety of choices in the area. If you are looking for clubs or the good bar scene, Fort Walton Beach and Destin are the places to be. However, if you like the relaxed environment and can find entertainment in other ways, Crestview is a good place to be.
3. Traffic
Traffic seems to be the one thing that many of us can't avoid, Especially the traffic on Highway 85. Unsurprisingly, during the commuting hours, highway 85 can get pretty backed up and cause headaches to those that are just wanting to get to work or come home.
4. Located right off of Interstate 10
Something that doesn't ease the traffic issue we just discussed is the fact that Crestview is adjacent to Interstate 10. Interstate 10 is a major route that connects many of the larger cities along the coast. Therefore, residents of Crestview will have to deal with lots of travelers, truck drivers, and all the things related to being next to a major interstate.
5. Job Opportunities
You may be wondering, "How can there be no job opportunities in Crestview?" Well, Crestview isn't known for having a plethora of corporate jobs like the Destin-Fort Walton beach area does. You can expect your typical jobs that a smaller town would have, but if you are looking to lay your roots in a large corporation, you may need to commute for that.
Now, let's move onto the PROS:
1. Family Friendly
Much like many other small towns, they are great to raise a family in. The residents of Crestview are a great bunch of people that stick together. Plus, if you are moving to the area because of the military, you won't be alone. Crestview is a popular spot for active duty and retired military personnel.
2. Away From the Tourist Hot Spot
While you can't escape the traffic, you do escape the tourists and the issues that follow. We don't mean that tourists are bad, but where tourists go, the costs for pretty much everything rises to meet them. Crestview gets the benefit of escaping those higher costs that their neighbors in Fort Walton and Destin face, while still being relatively close to the beaches and beauty that is the Emerald Coast.
3. Twin Hills
We included Twin Hills Park in this list because it is a amazing place to bring your family. There is a ton of open space for kids to run around and play in and meet new friends. It also has a walking trail for adults and young adults alike to enjoy the nature around them. Furthermore, there are basketball courts, soccer fields, and open grass spaces where residents can head out and play a pick-up game of football or whatever sport they would like. There is so much else to do at this park that you will have to go out and see it for yourself.
4. Centrally Located
Interstate 10 doesn't only cause headaches. Since Crestview is so close to the interstate, residents have the opportunity to head out and explore very easily. They aren't very far from all the wonderful places that surround the Emerald Coast.
5. Lower Cost of Living
As we had slightly touched on earlier, Crestview is an incredibly affordable place to live. There is a mixture of older homes and newer construction that can meet anyone's needs and wants. In fact, on a scale to 100 (where 100 is the average cost of living), Crestview falls at 93.1. But wait, there's more. The average cost of living in Florida actually is above the national average at 102.8. Therefore, Crestview really does give you the bang for your buck.
