Destin FL Living - Should You Move To Destin

Should you move to Destin? I don't know. So, I'm going to talk about it for a little bit, and maybe by the end of the video, you will decide if you should move to Destin, Florida. So, stick around.

So, should you move to Destin? Well, the answer should be yes if you absolutely need the smooth white sands and the beautiful emerald green waters as a part of your daily living. So, you can either live right on the beach, maybe in a condo or a little beach house or you can live where it's probably a little bit cheaper away from the beach, but you still have your quick and easy access to any of the public beaches. I myself, live maybe about 15 or so minutes from the beach. I don't go too often because I'm either busy or I just plan on doing other things and spending a day at the beach, but I don't make it a big deal to hurry up and get to the beach because I live here and I know the beach is there waiting for me whenever I get to it. And that's the great thing about living in this area because you don't have to plan a full day of traveling to get to the beach. You're just already right there, it's great.

FUN ACTIVITIES

Now, if you like to enjoy fun activities on a regular basis, well then you should definitely move to Destin where you're guaranteed to find something fun and entertaining to do every weekend or really whenever you have time. If you like water parks, there's Big Kahuna's located right off of Highway 98. Little confession, even though I've lived in the area for a very long time, I have never actually been to Big Kahuna's. But I will, one day. Also, if you like to go bowling, there's Uncle Buck's located in the Destin Commons and there's Hurricane Lanes. I've been to them, both had a great time. They both have bars where you can order drinks and have an even better time. I've actually hosted a birthday party at Hurricane Lanes earlier this year. I enjoyed the Long Island's but my advice to you, take it easy on what you drink because they will catch up with you the next morning, but I won't get into that. Also, if you like to go laser tag, there's the Destin Laser Tag, I have been there as well. I've been there with my kids. It was a very competitive game from what I remember. I did scratch up my favorite flip-flops that I had on at the time. Very competitive as I said. So, I was running around the corner and somehow I tripped and the front of my flip-flop kind of bent in, and it just kind of scraped it somehow and I hurt my toe. But again, that's just how I get down when we're in competition. There's also the track where you can enjoy riding on go-karts and bumper boats, there's an arcade. So, there are several activities for you to enjoy with the family or with a bunch of friends there. You can have fun with people of all ages. I do see a lot of adults playing video games too. So, don't think that's just for your little kids. And, just be mindful of what you say around these kids if you do get competitive with little video games. I've seen that as well, where I think people get a little offended by other people's mouths. So, just be mindful that there are other children around when you're playing these arcade games. Also, if you're down for a thrill, you can get on a helicopter ride. I haven't done that yet, but I think I probably will.  I'm not a huge fan of heights, but I am a military brat, so I have spent several hours of my time on an airplane as a child. I've been overseas a few times, so I don't see what the problem would be for me to get on a helicopter for a short time. So, I'll definitely try it out. But, I'm sure it's a very amazing view that you would enjoy when you're on the helicopter and you get to see the beautiful Emerald Coast from up above. So, definitely check out those helicopter rides that they have available for you too.

TONS OF RESTAURANTS

Also, another thing about moving to Destin is that it's a great place to go if you love to eat and if you're one that doesn't like to cook all the time. You like to go out? Well, there are so many restaurants for you to choose from out in Destin. And, it doesn't matter what you like, you'll probably find it nearby within just a matter of minutes. Whether you like Japanese food, there's Hibachi. Thai food, Italian, Mexican barbecue, or good old country cooking. You name it, you'll find it here in Destin, Florida.

FISHING

You should also move to Destin if you love to go fishing. Now, that's even if you don't have your own boat, you can still enjoy fishing because there are tons of fishing charters available out in Destin and the surrounding areas. You can also find some property on the water where you can have your own boat right there in your backyard or nearby. There's a boat launch nearby. You can just still keep your boat next to your house and just take it off to the boat launch that's conveniently located in that community. So I've never actually been on a fishing charter myself, but I have actually been on a dolphin cruise. So, I didn't go fishing, but I was able to go out on a Sunset Cruise and see some Dolphins out there messing around trying to get our attention. So, that was very, very cute.

GOLF COMMUNITIES

And, if one of your favorite activities is to go golfing, and I don't mean by the Gulf of Mexico. I mean, Golf. There are several great golf communities that you can live-in in Destin. There's the Indian Bayou Golf Club. Great Community, beautiful homes out there. There's also the Regatta Bay Golf and Yacht Club. That's pretty awesome as well. And there's the Emerald Bay Golf Club to check out. So, great communities for you to live in. You can own your own golf cart. You don't have to worry about packing everything up and traveling you can live right there in the community. Go golfing with your neighbors, or your family, or even by yourself, whatever you like to do. But there are several different communities for you to check out and Destin.

DIFFERENT HOUSING OPTION

And, if you are trying to decide, if you should move to Destin, and you're wondering about what type of housing you would even be interested in. Well, there are many different housing options for you in Destin. You can purchase your own single-family home if you like your own space in your own yard. Or, if you don't care for the yard and you just kind of want a beachy or resorty lifestyle, you can purchase a condo on the beach. They are also condos available that are away from the beach if you want to kind of stay away from the more congested areas. Of course, Destin is a big tourist spot, but there are areas where it doesn't get as busy and crazy because it's away from the beach. So, that would be an option for you if that's what you're concerned with. You can also purchase a townhome that has some great options that are close to the beach when there's some away from the beach as well. And, you also have your option to purchase your own beach house if you could find one that you like and that's available because obviously, that would be a hot purchase for anyone that wants to buy their own home on the beach. So, that's another great option for you. Or if you don't even plan on living in your home full time, you can just purchase a great investment property where you can live in it part-time. And then when you are away at a stage or wherever you are, you can rent it out to vacationers and make some money off of it. There are a lot of people that I've come across that purchase property just to live in it during the fall and winter months and they will rent it out during the spring and summer, then make some very good money. So, that would definitely be an option too.

WHY YOU SHOULD NOT MOVE HERE

Now, don't get me wrong. There are probably some reasons why you wouldn't want to move to Destin.

TRAFFIC

As you're probably aware, this is a very beautiful area. So, a lot of people like to visit here all year round and you will definitely run into some traffic and some congestion during the spring and summertime. A lot of people trying to hit the beaches at the same time so it can get a little crowded around the beach access points and a lot of the shopping areas and a lot of the activities that I mentioned earlier can get a little crazy and busy. So, if you're not really down with that type of environment where there are a lot of tourists and new people coming and going, then Destin might not be the right area for you.

WEATHER

Another thing to consider would be the weather. It does get hot, but we are in Florida. So, if you are up north and you're used to living in the cooler weather for most of your life, the hot summertime and even the hot springtimes might be too much for you to handle. But just be aware that it does get pretty steamy down here in Florida. So, just remember that if you do decide to relocate, you're in for a little hot treat.

NO FARM LOTS

Also, if you are one that likes to own a large piece of property, maybe you like large farmland, you like to have all your animals with you, Destin's definitely not the area for you. There are not too many lots that I've come across any way where you can have a large piece of land and have your farm animals. Now, there are a lot of areas around Destin such as Milton, Crestview, any areas where it's a little further away from the beach. You would find a great piece of property where you can fit everything that you need to on one of piece of land. But in Destin, you may have a little trouble finding that, so just make sure you keep your eye out on the type of properties that you really want to purchase before deciding to make that actual move.
