How Much Does it Cost to Live in Niceville
We talk a lot about the Destin and Fort Walton Beach areas and how beautiful they are. However, it is time we shed some light and love on Niceville. Niceville is a small city north of Destin and northeast of Fort Walton Beach. It is often seen as an alternative to living in Fort Walton Beach or Destin since it is still relatively close to the military installations in the area. Although, we haven't talked about how much it actually costs to live in Niceville. So, Tim did you all the favor and tells you how much it costs to live in Niceville, Florida.
As a quick preface, this blog will not use exact numbers to describe what the actual costs are to live in Niceville (excluding housing costs), but instead will use the national average index. The index uses 100 as their average and anything above or below 100 is considered above or below average, respectively.
Since The Whittemore Group is a real estate company, Tim starts off with the costs of housing. You all will be happy to know that the average cost of a home is $294,000. To get an idea of how that stacks up compared to other places, California's (state-wide) average home price is $440,000. Now, if you choose to go the route of renting a house, apartment, or condo, you can expect to pay $1,057 per month.
Now we will move on to the national average index for various items/services you would expect to pay for if you move to Niceville:
- Food and Groceries - 103
Food and groceries will actually cost just over the national average in Niceville. This may be slightly surprising, but this can be partially attributed to the proximity to Destin and Fort Walton Beach. This category includes the cost of going out to eat in the area, therefore, this is why the price is higher than you would expect. However, as a consolation, the restaurants in the area very much delicious, so you will get your money's worth.
- Utilities - 106.9
The cost of utilities is not as surprising as the cost of food and groceries. Niceville and the surrounding areas actually do get their share of weather. There is most certainly instances of very cold weather and most definitely instances of incredibly hot weather. As a result, you will end up using both your air conditioning and heating throughout the year. Unfortunately, the cost of utilities is the highest on the index than any of the items we will talk about in this blog, but it is a price worth paying for living in paradise.
- Transportation - 96.2
Moving on, the cost of transportation is lower than the national average coming in at 96.2. This index takes into account the cost of gas prices, as well as any costs related to taking public transportation. If you move to Niceville, you'll be relatively happy with the cost of fuel.
- Health Care - 97.2
The cost of health care also falls under the national average at 97.2. This is very much a positive thing for anyone that is considering moving to the area that is worried for the prices they would have to pay for health care services.
- Miscellaneous - 100.4
The cost of miscellaneous items is basically right at the national average. Miscellaneous items include just your normal items you'd purchase on a regular basis. For example, dish soap, towels, paper, and other random daily items you can think of.
In the end, Niceville does score above the national average in terms of cost coming in at 108. This may seem a bit steep, but when considering where most of your costs will come from (utilities and food and groceries), this does make sense. If this maybe turns you away slightly, consider where you be living. You will be living only a few minutes away from some of the most beautiful places in the nation. Oh, and only a few minutes away from some of the most beautiful beaches in the world.
