10 tips to help set up your house for movers
- Purge your house of items you no longer need.
- Dispose of hazardous items, perishables, and other items that movers won’t pack.
- Inventory your items. Write it down!
- Establish a “don’t pack” area of items you don’t want the movers to pack.
- Prepare essential boxes yourself. Have a parts box for furniture you’ve taken apart.
- Brief your family on the plans for packing and moving.
- Prepare your appliances. No liquids in the washing machine, food in the refrigerator, etc.
- Pre-pack small items – important papers, etc.
- Take photos of your items.
- Be a thoughtful host! Provide water to the movers, have the items organized, etc.
