10 tips to help set up your house for movers

1. Purge your house of items you no longer need.
2. Dispose of hazardous items, perishables, and other items that movers won’t pack.
3. Inventory your items. Write it down!
4. Establish a “don’t pack” area of items you don’t want the movers to pack.
5. Prepare essential boxes yourself. Have a parts box for furniture you’ve taken apart.
6. Brief your family on the plans for packing and moving.
7. Prepare your appliances. No liquids in the washing machine, food in the refrigerator, etc.
8. Pre-pack small items – important papers, etc.
9. Take photos of your items.
10. Be a thoughtful host! Provide water to the movers, have the items organized, etc.
